Our Story
La Grange has
always been a
place to linger.
Nestled along Bonds Flat Road on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, Blue Oaks Campground sits on land that has drawn visitors for generations — long before the name "La Grange" appeared on any map.
The valley oaks here are not scenery; they are the reason this place exists as a campground at all. Their branches form a living ceiling that keeps the summer heat at bay and turns every night into something close to cathedral silence. We don't change the landscape — we simply open it up to you.
Whether you arrive by trailer, pickup, or on foot, the ground beneath you is the same earth that has sheltered campers since the Gold Rush days. That continuity is something you feel the moment you turn off the road.
Overnight Shelter
The Cabin.
Simple.
Solid.
Yours.
For those who prefer a roof that doesn't breathe with the wind, our cabin offers a straightforward night's rest — wooden floors, a sturdy bed, and the sound of oaks rustling just beyond the walls.
It's not luxury lodging. It's something rarer: a place that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is — a dry, quiet room in the middle of a forest that has been here far longer than we have.
The Grounds
Sixty acres of
intentional stillness.
The campground is not a destination you pass through. It is a place you arrive at and simply stay — because the reason for leaving hasn't presented itself yet.
Shaded RV Sites
Pull-through and back-in sites available under the full canopy of mature valley oaks. No hookups required — just space, shade, and a level pad.
Fire & Night Sky
Every site includes a fire ring. The light pollution here is negligible — the Milky Way is visible on clear nights, and the stars don't bother asking you to move along.
Walking Trails
Dirt paths wind through the property at varying lengths — from a short loop past the campground boundary to longer routes that climb into the foothills.
What to Do
The Sierra
Foothills
are your
backyard.
La Grange sits on the transition zone between the Central Valley and the high Sierra — meaning everything from desert scrub to alpine meadows is within a short drive, and much of it is accessible on foot from the campground itself.
Hiking & Trail Running
Mokelumne National Forest is a short drive north. Trails range from easy riverside walks to strenuous climbs with panoramic views of the San Joaquin Valley below.
Fishing & Creek Access
The Mokelumne River and its tributaries run through the area. Catch-and-release fishing for trout is available in season, and the smaller creeks offer quiet wading spots.
Historic La Grange
Five minutes from the campground, the town itself is a preserved Gold Rush-era settlement. Walk the main street, visit the museum, and see the original stone buildings that date to the 1850s.
Wildlife & Wildflowers
Golden paintbrush, lupine, and poppies paint the hillsides in spring. Deer, quail, and red-tailed hawks are regular visitors — and they don't care how quiet you are.
"We came for one night and stayed three. The oaks made it impossible to leave — there was nowhere else we needed to be."
